Political Corruption – Part 1

Political Corruption – Part 1

“Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that “if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom,” it is a very serious consideration … that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event.”

– Samuel Adams

Why politicians become corrupt.

There is little need to demonstrate the growing political corruption seen each day in Washington, or in the fifty state capitals throughout the country. Where there is a need is to clearly explain how corruption flourishes so quickly. But to do so, the People must first recognize and accept that in a democracy the People get the government they deserve. Why?

The People sanction the government to print more money, or increase taxes, and too often it is significantly more than required. When politicians have access to that money, they become more powerful, more corrupt. Whenever asking the government to do “something”, the People are actually directing the government to take more money from the taxpayers, mostly the middle-class, or it will simply print, or borrow more, which leads to inflation. Regardless of where the money comes from, politicians are spending the People’s money.

Even if an honest and conscientious politician was responsible for overseeing how money was raised and spent, the temptation of possessing that power, more than likely leads to irresponsibility and, sometimes, moral depravity. This is the cause for corruption in government. Currently, the government is doing too much – addressing too many concerns. The end result, the People are becoming more dependent on the government – slaves.
